Are intruder alarms still effective...
Three burglars have recently been in court after giving themselves up when police arrived at a Yorkshire factory they had broken into. The strong arm of the law this time was a couple of snarling attack dogs so that probably helped focus the mind of the three would be robbers.
Leeds Crown Court heard the firm had recently installed CCTV and security equipment following a previous break-in a few days earlier. Horse bolted springs to mind here but better late than never.
The three burglars used tools to cut their way through a fence and then smashed a window. One climbed through the window and opened the fire escape letting his accomplices into the building. Their focus then turned to copper cable on site as they used the company’s own angle grinders to try and steal it.
Unbeknown to these not so clever burglars, they had activated the motion sensors and Yorkshire Police arrived on site. Warned that police dogs would be released they came out of hiding and gave themselves up.
They caused nearly £3,000 of damage but never managed to get off with any goods leaving the business to clear up the mess but maintain operations.
Clearly the intruder system worked here and with the quick response from police three rogues have felt the strong arm (or gnashing teeth) of the Law.
