Police are appealing for witnesses after a man armed with a knife stole £2,000 from a convenience store in Jarrow.

The incident happened in broad daylight at 1.30pm on Tuesday 4 August, when staff at the McColl’s convenience store on Edinburgh Road were threatened by a male with a knife.

The man is described as white, wearing a white face covering and a black hooded top.

Detective Constable Kelly Scott is quoted in the Northern Echo as saying  “We urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident take place to get in touch with any information that they have.”

DC Scott went on to say “This has understandably left the victim very shaken and we are determined to bring whoever is responsible to justice.”
