Protection of people, business continuity and reputation
Restaurants are considered to be relatively critical zones in a hotel due to the various ignition sources such as candles, or cooking and frying at the table and the number of guests present. Depending on the room dimensions and the expected deceptive phenomena, smoke detectors or ASA neural fire detectors with the combination smoke/heat are recommended for monitoring restaurant areas.
In the event of a fire, alerting and evacuating all parties at risk in good time has the highest priority. A fire protection system is needed that guarantees rapid, reliable fire detection and activates both the alarm devices and the relevant fire control installations.
Early warning of a fire is essential; not only for protecting people, but also for ensuring business continuity and the reputation of the hotel. However, unnecessary evacuation activities due to false alarms must be avoided. To learn more on fire protection in restaurants and hotels, download for free the Siemens guidance here
Professional offsite CCTV monitoring can provide commercial properties, business locations such as lorry parks and garage forecourts, and homes of high net-worth individuals, with high quality, cost effective 24/7 security. When installed to BS 8418 the monitored CCTV system can be issued with a Unique Reference Number (URN) for Police response. Read more
Our continued growth is reported in the online news pages of Business Durham.

Local fire and security company Bellmac Fire and Security has reported record growth in 2020 with turnover increasing by 83%.
Established in 2017 and based in Witton Gilbert, Durham, the business was the idea of Michael Boland, Ben Forster and Michael Nice. All three entrepreneurs had extensive experience of working within the fire and security industry both for local and national companies. It was during that time that they recognised the opportunity for a new fire and security business to be based in the North East to serve local customers.
What makes Bellmac so successful though, is that from the outset it has been structured to serve customers of all sizes and demands. Michael Nice, former Director of Key and National accounts at the Securus Group and the Commercial Director at Bellmac, explained “what we wanted to do was to provide the very best operational service delivery to national and local clients within the North East. We had experienced at first hand how large national fire and security companies failed to deliver the standard of customer service required on the ground, whilst at the same time smaller companies had neither the infrastructure or compliance experience to operate in what can be a demanding market.”
The 3 entrepreneurs believed there was a gap for a well structured, financed local supplier. They established the business with all the accreditations you would find at a much larger organisation, recruited the very best engineers they knew within the industry and put the customer and engineering at the centre of their delivery.
Ben Forster Bellmac’s Service Director explained “it is well known that our industry often forget that the most important part of the business is to put the right person in front of the right panel. It was crucial that we focussed on the skill and experience of our engineers which is why we recruited the people we did. Ongoing training and development of our engineers is what makes us stand out from our competition. Having van stock at min/max levels, a local hub and above all the correct level of test and diagnostic equipment for each engineer, means we can often solve customer’s problems first time with as little inconvenience to them as possible”
This story would not be completed though without Bellmac’s Sales and Ops Director Michael Boland. Well known within the industry for his high standards, integrity and a talent matched by no other to understand what the customer needs, Michael summed up what Bellmac is all about. “It is a business that puts the customer at the centre of the operation and supports that function by ensuring we have the correct processes in place and highly skilled engineers, with the right equipment, to resolve customers problems first time. We do what we say we are going to do and we do it to the right standard every time.”
This growing local North East company has exciting plans for 2021 which at the moment they are staying tight lipped about, but you can rest assured at the very heart of those plans will be their customers needs and the skills of their engineers.
Recent lockdowns have seen more people work from home and many high-street shops have either closed permanently, temporary or at least see much reduced opening hours. There are simple steps owners can take to reduce the risk to their property and adjacent buildings, including many flats that are above UK shops. We address the risk to unused buildings in this short article.
